PROJECT
Development of Integrated Analysis and Inference System for Cybercrime Investigation (Cyber C.O.P)
Research Goal
Despite the rapid surge in cybercrimes—such as online fraud, phishing, and online sexual exploitation—that are becoming increasingly intelligent and sophisticated, the current investigative approach is showing limitations due to issues including fragmented data collection, delays in early response, and reliance on costly foreign solutions. These issues lead to delay in prolonged investigations, low arrest rates, and the repeated spread of harm, heightening public anxiety.
This R&D project aims to build an Integrated Analysis and Inference System for Cybercrime Investigation (Cyber C.O.P)—an AI-based platform that automatically collects, preprocesses, and analyzes diverse types of crime data in order to visualize and infer actionable results. The system will augment investigators’ judgment and systematically support the entire process from the initial stage of a case to suspect identification and apprehension, improving both efficiency and accuracy.
Ultimately, the project seeks to secure core technologies for a Korea-tailored, real-time cybercrime response framework, thereby enhancing the speed, accuracy, and objectivity of cybercrime response while strengthening police investigative capabilities and public safety.
Key Technology
Data Collection and Analytics: Develop technology that automatically collect and analyze cybercrime-related information, including open-source intelligence (OSINT), cryptocurrency transaction records, and financial/telecommunications data.
Pre-processing and Metadata Processing: Convert heterogeneous unstructured and semi-structured data into an analyzable form through cleansing, validation, and metadata extraction.
Relationship Analysis: Apply network-based analysis to explore relationships among investigative leads and drive key leads.
Composite Inference: Leverage time-series and geospatial information together with human networks to infer suspects and articulate legal grounds (e.g. the necessity of compulsory measures such as warrants).
Integrated Platform: Build an integrated cybercrime-investigation platform that combines the above capabilities, providing investigators with intuitive visualizations and automated investigative support.
