Hallym University’s Forensic Information Science and Technology and the Pyo Institute of Crime Science jointly hosted the ‘2025 Forensic Science CSI Competition’ on January 15th at the Hallym University International Hall. The competition drew participation from a total of eight teams, comprising approximately 40 undergraduate students from universities across the nation. Each team was tasked with solving a given mission through criminal investigation and scientific analysis. The winning teams were selected based on their presentation of criminal inferences derived from the analysis of evidence they collected themselves. The judging panel for this year's competition featured a distinguished group of experts: Professor Taek-geun Kim of Hallym University, a former chief of police; Professor Seung-Hwan Lee of Hwaseong Medi Science University, a leading authority in DNA evidence identification; and CEO Hoon Kang of IDS., a company specializing in the development of forensic investigation equipment. Students from Hallym University's Department of Forensic Information Science and Technology facilitated the overall proceedings of the program. In this nationwide competition, the Grand Prize was awarded to the 'Cheok-Cheok Haksa Team' from Sungshin Women's University. The Excellence Award was presented to the 'Jjoroni Team,' a joint team of students from Yonsei University, Chungbuk National University, and Seoul National University. Distinguished Professor Chang-won Pyo of Hallym University remarked, "It is unfortunate that career paths in the forensic science field have been largely limited, with few opportunities outside of recruitment by public investigative bodies like the police." He continued, "Through this competition, I hope to see an expansion of opportunities in the private sector, which will broaden students' career options. I also hope this event draws continued interest and attention to the Department of 고 있다. Forensic Information Science and Technology at Hallym University." Hallym University's Department of Forensic Information Science and Technology, established in the 2024 academic year with an inaugural class of 40 students, is dedicated to cultivating talented individuals who will lead the new era of scientific policing. The department aims to nurture professionals capable of addressing the complex, interdisciplinary problems arising in our rapidly evolving, AI-driven society and leading the advancement of forensic science through the strategic use of AI and data.
